Identity Composite Brainstorming

Image
T he sketches are a bit rough. I planned to do a more refined sketch after deciding which idea will be the one I want to move forward with.  Left: The scene takes place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The paintings and sculptures are replaced with aspects of my identity. Not to say that I hold myself as highly as the art in the museum, but taking the museum for what is is for me, a comfortable place to observe and reflect. Right: I did a dollhouse scene for this sketch. I think it provides a sense of nostalgia which is definitely a part of my personality. Each room inside the house represents a different aspect of myself.  Left: The space is a nonspecific room in this sketch. The subject definitely comes forward more than my previous two sketches. The main focus is my hand holding various versions of myself. The thing I like about this one is that it can be interpreted as my life being in my own hands. Right: This one is more a play on evaluating aspects of mys

"My So-Called Opinions" Opinions

What I gathered from this article was that the combination of the upsurge in social justice conversations and living in a technologically advanced society is somehow a debilitating curse suffered by today's young people.  Zachary Fine really seems to have mastered a tone of voice in his writing that uses intellectual commentary (to a debatably superfluous degree) to mask his latent whining. It's not difficult to have your own opinions and support diversity. For the most part, people who complain about having to incorporate "political correctness" into their lives are really complaining about having to consider disadvantaged people's feelings and experiences. We come together and interact with a myriad of individuals with lives unlike our own. The concept that maybe it's wise to think about people other than yourself is not detrimental. Meanwhile it's really interesting that thinking outwardly comes as a challenge when it's obvious that introspectiv

Digital Collecting

How does the digital world change the way we collect? I think collecting things gets easier with each generation. Obviously physical objects still take up space, but unimaginable amounts of media can be saved on the smallest flash drives and shared with the world. The ways we can collect is expanding. Is there something you collect (physical or digital)? I have a jar in my room of found buttons. Think about the digital collections you have I definitely have a large digital collection of music. I have it saved in an old computer hard drive. Digital collection parameters What? Video game controllers How many? 20 Where to source (must be online ie. instagram, google maps, craigs list, amazon)? Google images Why did you choose to collect this? I like video games and I think it'd be cool to organize a collection of the evolution of their designs.

Chrome for internet browsing, Gmail for my email needs, Messenger and Snapchat for contact with friends, and Youtube for music and videos if I want to kill time. Who is your favorite artist (share a link or photo)? Depends. If it's contemporary oil: Alyssa Monks. I've met her. She's brilliant.    If it's surrealist photography: Kyle Thompson If it's surrealist sculpture: Jim Mckenzie http://jimmckenzie.net/video/scarecrow-making-video That was
